WILFRED GORDON DOWBIGGIN Peacefully, at his residence, Wilf Dowbiggin entered his eternal reward on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, surrounded by his devoted family. Wilf is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn; sons, Neil (Debbie), Dwight (Mary) and daughter Claire Klug (Leo) grandchildren, Shelley, Scott, Lani, Cory, Kelly and Shannon, Regan and Brendan; and great-grandchildren, Cort and Riley. He was born October 8, 1918, to James and Mabel Dowbiggin and grew up in Winnipeg. Through the R.C.A.F. he was stationed at their Ottawa headquarters from 1939 to 1945. There he met and in 1942 married Evelyn Driscoll of Ottawa. Moving to Winnipeg in 1945 where their family was born, Wilf embarked on diverse business interests, lastly as an underwriter with Great-West Life whence he retired in 1989 after 20 years service. His life was marked by devotion to the Lord, to his wife, and to his family. Service to others was constant through his work-a-day life, community and church affairs. Wilf was a long-standing and honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, whose objectives and camaraderie he cherished. He also enjoyed his honorary membership in the Goan Association. Wilfs personality was grounded in family and friends, always diffusing joy and serenity to whomever he encountered. Few were a stranger to him. He will be missed beyond all telling. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. in Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski presiding. A private family interment will follow. Gratitude from our family goes out to staff at Oncology Department, Victoria Hospital; Palliative Home Care, St. Boniface Hospital; Knights of Columbus; and friends alike whose generous support has been most comforting and appreciated. If friends so desire, donations in Wilfs memory may be made to the Manitoba League for Life, 579 DesMeurons, St. Boniface, MB R2H 2P6 or a charity of your choice.
